LP: SO SERIOUS by The Like Young
Company: Parasol Records
Role: Musician, Designer
This is the sound of two people quitting their jobs, buying a van, going on tour, and attempting to follow a dream. We didn’t make it, but I’ll always cherish the experience. The Like Young existed from 2001-2006, and I sang, played guitar and bass, and wrote the songs. For me, SO SERIOUS (our second LP) was the strongest representation of the band. The album was recorded to Pro Tools at North Branch Studio in Chicago by Barry Phipps of The Coctails. Fun fact: “Worry A Lot,” a single from this album, was included on every new iPod in 2003.
The design used color, shapes, and the band’s faces to establish an emotion in the most minimal way possible.
Pitchfork said: “Nothing on the album sounds half-baked or underdeveloped, but there’s more going on in the songs’ brevity than a simple leave-’em-wanting-more aesthetic.”
