In my role as Art Director at Alamo Drafthouse, I was part of the small team that conceived and produced BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH., the theater chain’s monthly print magazine. I art directed and designed the first six issues before the magazine morphed into a site, and later, an ongoing limited edition magazine series in collaboration with Mondo. The magazine was created to help promote Alamo’s national film programming. The design was heavily inspired by the theater’s entrenchment in genre film history. From kaiju obscurities to Steven Spielberg, nothing was off limits. This gave me the freedom to be playful and exploratory, while adhering to a strict grid.
