Conceived when filmmaker Emily Hagins was 12 and released when she was 15, PATHOGEN is one of the most accomplished horror movies ever made by a person before they could legally drive a car. The tone of the movie feels like what might have happened if the characters from MY SO-CALLED LIFE made a zombie epic after school—so that was my guide for the design. Using on-set photos as a centerpiece, I combined late-90s and early-00s visual cues with hand-drawn elements to represent the experience of watching the movie.
